DBT Therapy North East

DBT is a form of CBT that was developed to treat emotional problems. I practice DBT in Gosforth Regent Centre alongside CBT ( Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) and Hypnotherapy. As a therapy in can be described as a mix of CBT and the eastern philosophy of mindfulness. It fits perfectly with my training as a clinical hypnotherapist and Masters in CBT.

Why DBT Dialectical Behaviour Therapy?

DBT works by targeting negative thinking and unhelpful behaviour. It is a great all-round tool box for better managing relationships. It can help you communicate better and set your boundaries while learning how to respect the boundaries of others.

It was developed originally to help people with borderline personality disorder (bpd) now known as emotionally unstable personality disorder (EUPD).

There are 4 categories ( often called pillars) of DBT skills:

  • Mindfulness
  • Distress Tolerance
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Interpersonal Effectiveness

What is DBT?

What is meant by dialectical ? Thinking dialectally is when you can see all sides, or both sides of a situation even though they may be opposite. You might feel validated in being very angry at someone yet want to change how you react and think when you are provoked. Think of it as reaching a balance within yourself so that you can lead a more productive happy life. Acceptance and change can happen at the same time. DBT recognises that all behaviour is trying to serve some purpose and that change is about progress not perfection. DBT can help with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and many other mental health problems where emotions, impulsive behaviours and poor relationships play a significant role.

ladder(a)

Hypnotherapy: is a therapy used to create subconscious change in a patient in the form of new responses, thoughts, attitudes, behaviors or feelings. It is undertaken with a subject in hypnosis.
Psychotherapy: is the use of psychological methods, often based on regular personal interaction, to help a person change and overcome problems in desired ways.
CBT: Cognitive behavioural therapy aims to help you crack this cycle by breaking down overwhelming problems into smaller parts and showing you how to change these negative patterns to improve the way you feel.
CBH: Cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy can be regarded as one of three core models of hypnotic psychotherapy. It combines hypnotherapy with techniques and concepts from cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT).
